Guideline to keep LED lamps from moisture

 

As known, LED lamps belongs to moisture sensitive components where they are used in outdoor or indoor scenario. The bracket for LED lamp beads such as PPA,BT and other chemical resin has their moisture absorption properties. Thus an led lamp is easy to get moisture. Without proper protection, it will lead to dead leds or malfunction leds.

How moisture get an LED lamp malfuntion?

When an LED get moisture, the led lamps will undergo an electrochemical corrosion reaction. The chip will be short-circuited and the electrode will break down. In sever cases, there occurs the metal migration of the pad.And all these will cause abnormalities of the LED screen.

Some active metal atoms lose their electrons and become cations. And then the metal oxidizes by chemical reaction.


How to protect LED lamps to get moisture?

Here I sort out the related protection measures to protect the LED lamps from moisture before assembling and after assembling .

1. Before assembling.

When the led lamps in transition or in storage, using supporting padding to keep the LED lamp 50mm away from the ground and keep the storage house in proper humidity and temperature(in usual case, keep the humidity within 40%RH~60%RH, and the temperature with 20~30 celsius)

How to protect LED lamps to get moisture?

Here I sort out the related protection measures to protect the LED lamps from moisture before assembling and after assembling .


1. Before assembling.

When the led lamps in transition or in storage, using supporting padding to keep the LED lamp 50mm away from the ground and keep the storage house in proper humidity and temperature(in usual case, keep the humidity within 40%RH~60%RH, and the temperature with 20~30 celsius)


2. After assembling

There we should dry the LED lamps in drying case before the leds are pasted on the PCB board. And here we should dry the lamps according to the exact status of the led lamps with longer or shorter time. For narrow pixel pitch led lamps(like P2.5, P1.9 or tighter pixel pitch), we should dry them at 60 celsius for 12~24 hours; and for outdoor led lamps like P5, P6, P8, P10, we should keep them drying at 70 celsius for 12~48 hours.

What’s more, we should package the LED modules in vaccum case or pack them with desiccant when they are in transition or when they should be in idle for a long time in the workshop during holidays.

In Premteco, we have an automatic machine which is used to spray a covering gel to the module so that the modules will be well isolated from the moisture,dust outside.

And when the screen is in aging, we should light it to get the screen heat itself and get off to the moisture.


How to get your LED screen away from moisture damage? 

When the panels arrives to you by sea, it would be better to set them up and light them up for 12~24 hours to eliminate the possible moisture away from your screens.
